sunday sunday

Las Tres MarĂas, or so this shall henceforth be called by moi.

My uncle and grandmother have come home from burying my grandfather. They told me of how long the flight took (30 hours). Since there was no direct flight, they were shuttled to almost every part of the world. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but their initial flight took them to Germany, then to Singapore, then back home. They said that it was a beautiful event, if burying can ever be called such. Gramps had a parade, taps, etc. He even had some of his then junior officers carry his casket. They, like he was, were all dentists for the military. I cannot help but imagine these old coots, stooped and all, lugging him on their shoulders to his final resting place.

My uncle also mentioned that since gramps was a braggart in his day, he figures now that he's with other deceased family members, hopefully they're all looking down upon the earth, he's telling them how beautiful his final rites were as compared to theirs.

Unc also said that he saw three women, off to the side, during the whole time. Being a philanderer, my grandfather may have sired a few extras on the side. That being the case, they're still family regardless.

My uncle had to sidestep a few crosses to get to them. They were crying nonstop before he went up to them, yet now their wailing increased tenfold. Above the din, he had to introduce himself:

Unc: I'm Levi, the sixth of eight children of Gen. Cleofe. He just recently passed away and we are all experiencing his loss. You are?
Woman: We too have recently experienced a loss, and you're standing right on top of him.

So much for finding out how far-reached my family trees' branches span....
