on catching up
my mom called this morning before i went to work. she told me that she's upgraded her mobile phone since her carrier has this promotion that allows them to receive a new unit every 18 months. it works both ways, since she gets a new phone, and the mobile company doesn't end up stocking too many phones that are potentially outdated within 3 months or less.
she also said that she read my blog about the disintegrating poca shells, told me that she's still into the imported soap operas from Korea, and that she sent me an anklet that she was hoping that i'd get to give to mi corazon. my mom's sneaky that way. she made me comfortable enough to let my guard down and it allowed her to deftly segue into a subject that hurts most right now.
only after setting it all up did she ask me how i was and if my dear heart knew that her days were numbered. there were many details that we discussed, of how i felt and other things about mi corazon, and not once did i feel like breaking down. and then, my dad woke up.
since there's a 12 hour time difference between them and myself, it was almost midnight when i received that call. dad always claimed that he needed 10 hours of sleep at the least, so it wasn't unusual for him to be in slumberland already. he's also been a relatively light sleeper, so i guess it came to no surprise that mom and i woke him as well.
what did though, was the fact that mom hadn't mentioned about my love's passing away to him. i suppose her reasoning would be because my grandfather had just kicked the bucket and that dad was still recuperating from that. what also surprised me was the fact that i almost lost it when i was talking to him. i believe that the only reason that that almost took place was the fact that by retelling him the details that i knew of, it felt as though i was reliving the pain over again.
i did make a promise to mi corazon though. i made a few, in fact. in this ocassion, the one that hits home would be her asking me not to cry when i thought or spoke about her. i'm trying, ma cherie, i'm trying. je t'adore.
