somewhere, beyond the sea....

before i left home, my mom gave me a necklace of poca shells. they probably come from the poca coral, but the ones that i've got are quite small. i used it for one of the theme parties that we recently had at work and realized that i need to permanently retire it now because it is falling apart.

it saddens me greatly that it is, but it has been quite some time since they were purchased afterall, and i went crazy and wore it 24/7 for a time -- i'd wear it to work, i'd swim in it, i'd bathe in it, i'd sleep in it, etcetera. unless there's something acidic in my sweat, wear and tear does that to organic materials; it just normally deteriorates.

you could probably tell by now that it is one of my more cherished possessions since i bothered to blog about it. sure, mom has given me a few things through the years; she's even sent some stuff over by pony express, but this would still be in my top 3 most cherished items (top 1 would be a butterfly earring, and top 2 would be the handwritten letter that came with the earring), ever.

so, what to do? i cannot get another one to replace it with; it's just not the same, nor do i feel right about asking for another one from mom even if she asked me what i'd like since my grandmother is there visiting anyways; she wanted to take advantage of that chance.

i've half a mind to clean the sucker and have it laminated and hung up on my wall, just because.

i think the operative words here are: i've half a mind. now that sounds about right.
