post st. patrick's day revelry

i've just come back in from carousing with some officemates, if having a dinner of chili soup with cheese and onions, crackers, and honey beer could be considered as such.

we went to our semi-regular friday night hangout to unwind after a week of dancing. it's weird to come out to play on a friday night, since we come in earlier on saturdays and it just seems ill-advised to do so.

regardless, i was excited to go. it's been a few weeks since we went there, plus i'd an ulterior motive to want to go: Carolyn and her siblings were on a road trip to visit a cousin in my area.

Carolyn. here. in the happiest place on earth. i've known this gem of information for almost a week now, and i possibly began to unconsciously count down the days, but it still hit me when i woke up today that it was happening.

i was giddy all over. it did help matters that i woke up to the sound of her voice, and reminded of this event.

i knew though, that there was a distinct possibility that we wouldn't get to see each other; they came down to support a cousin who had been going through a lot of late, and that could possibly take up much of their time.

i still felt sad and a tad disappointed, since i didn't get to see her in the bar/restaurant, especially since i told her where i was going to be.

after hanging out, the gang all paid their respective tabs and left at 11:45 pm. i drove the 5 minutes to home and was resigned to go keep company a soft, yet lonely, bed.

i had forgotten that she had written me a letter. it arrived today, and it made up for any distress i was going through just moments before.

i rip it open, read it, and shake my head when i reach the part written in french.

what moved me to tears though was not the fact that i couldn't understand a whit of français, but the little package accompanying this letter: it was of Carolyn's past, a cherished possession, a fraction of a piece of a memory which is hard-earned. plus, there was a strand of hair caught in the ribbon and the adhesive tape so maybe....

thank you, ma cherie, i shall hold this keepsake close to my heart. the trust which you've given, i hope truly i deserve.
