amour interdit
i'm on a language trip right now. i think, i have always been attracted to it. english, after all, is my second offensive language.
whoops. sorry. English for Speakers of Other Languages -- i said that to one of my students the other day and she looked at me funny. how was i supposed to know that she actually IS an ESOL teacher?
anyway, i think i have the best teachers for these other languages: my students. i show them a step, and they can't understand my explanation. thus, i end up saying something like:
okay, back with derecha, forward with izquierda....
or:
da! da! horoschow! use your kalyenye!
or maybe even:
remember, tiga walk backwards, then dua to the side....
it has happened that i tried to remember how to say you're welcome in russian, and the only thing that was going through my head was its japanese equivalent.
can't ever say that it'll be a passion, but it sure helps in communicating what i need. besides, most everyone else wonders what gibberish is coming out of my mouth, and that keeps them on their toes.
hey, being on your toes is part of dancing, afterall.
