showcase prep
i am saying this now, in preparation for the next few days until the weekend of november 19th:
i am going to get my ass whupped.
that weekend is yet another upcoming dance event. it's unlike the last one which was more like a friendly competition. this one is more akin to a recital than anything. that being said, i have to get a routine or two made for each of my pupils, and how.
keeping in mind that unlike musical recitals wherein the teacher may stay at the sidelines and just glow with pride at their students' accomplishments, a dance recital consists of the student and teacher on the floor; at least in the world of ballroom that's how it goes. sure, you get the occasional couple, but i deal mostly with women wanting to learn the art of following a good dance lead without necessarily supplying their own partner. guess who their partner ends up being?
right now, i've got at least 4 people that i have to make routines for. i'm no choreographing genius, and said event is just around the corner. sure, you're saying that november 19 is still a ways away, but not every single one of my pupils are blessed enough to come in once in the week. some are every other week, and by then, they would've forgotten everything.
i have less than 8 weeks to find proper music, choreograph a minute and a half of dancing at most, get myself to memorize it, teach my ladies their steps and retain it, and then show it to the general public. that's not counting making it look good, i might add.
no pressure, right?
