trying to make up on some long overdue blogs, part two

it's almost two in the morning. mi fidanzata has long been asleep, and yet i still stay on the phone, listening to her rhythmic breathing. she's had a long day, and what little conversation we could have possibly had when i got home, we've missed. i don't bother trying to wake her. i actually find it soothing to hear her like this. so as not to awaken her, i've put my telephone on mute, and i continue to surf through the internet.

and no, it's not porn that i am perusing.

i'm fantasizing about, of all things, my own place. thus, i am going through some free financial calculators from Bank of America and trying to make sense of all the information presented to me.

no dice.

i find myself remembering some houses that i've made up in my head instead. through the years, i've made a few, it seems like. right off the bat, here're some of them:

A Lighthouse

not just any lighthouse, but a lighthouse situated beside and upon a hill. part of the lighthouse would then be protruding from the side of this hill, and the garage and some home-stay helps' quarters will be in this area as well.

there will be multi levels, even split levels. i envision a spiral staircase in almost a double-helix pattern; one for the outside wall of the lighthouse, and another staggered one found within. they'll both be protected from the elements though, and the outside staircase is actually looking out to the surrounding area in such a way that it looks as if it is floating in the air. the walls, instead of concrete or any such material, will be Plexiglas and this'll be tinted so as anyone looking in from the outside will just see the typical lighthouse pattern of red and white.

the floor right above the garage will be the receiving area. this will be brightly lit, but not to the point of harshness. from this level, you can see the next few floors above if you look up.

the next floor would be the recreational area. you'll find the entertainment center here, as well as some games like table tennis and billiards. there will be a full bar here, for the occasional party or so.

in between this and the floor above it will be soundproofing. though in the hallways you can audibly hear any ruckus on any of the surrounding floors, this will be enough to dampen any kind of loud noises from permeating into the guest quarters.

above this will be the kitchen and the dining area. this level will be one of two floors that have Plexiglas all around it, instead of real walls. at this level as well, the whole circumference of the lighthouse will be high up enough to see a panoramic view of the surroundings.

the next floor up will be the library, and the beginnings of the private quarters. this is the first floor that cannot be seen from below. this is also the only floor that one cannot see the outside from.

since the kitchen would be a few floors below, this next floor will be self-sufficient. there will also be a loft-style area where the private quarters will be situated. on this floor, there will be two separate staircases leading to the above floor where the big light will be found. this excludes the outside spiral staircase. this is also the other room which has the whole circumference encased in Plexiglas, except that it is only on the part of the level where the loft is.

An Airplane Hangar

if the other fantasy home was more vertical, this one will be more horizontal. sprawled beside an old airstrip, this whole area will be almost an oasis in the middle of a mostly asphalt desert.

the entrance where the plane normally enters will be the garage, and it can house a personal helicopter, as well as maybe a few Cessnas alongside some really hot cars. the back wall will divide it from the rest of the hangar, and there will be two ways in entering the other part: either through the ground entrance or through another entrance which goes directly to the private quarters on the second level.

taking the second floor, one has to go through glass sliding doors which bring you to a waiting area, not unlike the waiting room of a fortune 500 business, reception desk included. there are two doors in here, excluding the first sliding door: the one to the left leads to a long hallway which has different doors that lead to different rooms (the commons room, guest quarters, and entertainment area). these doors open up to catwalks that are surrounded by, again, Plexiglas so that one does not fall down to the ground floor. the door to the left leads to the private quarters, as well as to separate catwalks that also crisscross through the whole compound. these rooms may be multi floored also.

so, why on the second floor? simple. the ground floor will be a garden of sorts. there will be trees, shrubs, bushes, etcetera all around. there will be paths to different areas of the garden, there will be pools to swim in, jacuzzis to relax in, as well as hot springs to just soak in. each room will have windows looking into the garden, and stairs going down to it as well. there will be a timed sprinkler system strategically situated so that only parts of the whole expanse get wet at a time. i also see a koi pond that goes through the whole hangar. a japanese dojo may be placed in one area, french gazebos in another. each area will have its own theme, and each one will be surrounded accordingly by flora that will accentuate this and will thus transport an individual to a facsimile of that locale. lastly, the whole hangar ceiling makes use of Plexiglas which one can control to make seem solid or transparent to let sun or star light in.

i know. i have the imagination of somebody who has money to burn. sadly, i don't. maybe in time, i will. for right now though, these images will remain in the realm of fantasy.
