Four Weddings and a Funeral

i recently had the pleasure of watching this brilliant movie after so many years of not doing so; i find that it is still quite fresh. i also drew some parallels from it with my own life. granted, one can always find parallels to anything with one's life if you look hard enough. in this case, i didn't need to try too hard. i've been to three different weddings in recent memory, all of which are of close associates. thankfully, that's where the similarities end.

i find no inner voice questioning why i've been going to so many of late and when i will settle down myself, nor have i run into any of my former flames in any of these. i almost hooked up with somebody in the last one, almost being the operative word. we never truly conversed; i just saw her shadow and that was that.

perhaps the most overriding reason would simply be thus:

Funeral Blues
W.H. Auden

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

i didn't feel that it was my right at all to readjust the gender to this timeless classic, but i think that you all know who i am referring to.... i'm still holding on to the one true love that i've lost forevermore.
