the search
most, if not all, of the people i hung out with in college are married. i know of at least one with children, and a few couples have gone their separate ways.
it's scary to know these things.
i think what's especially scary for me is the fact that i, in some aspect, am envious.
envious of the fact that they've met that one person they've wanted to share their whole life with. it's true that some of them didn't last, but the initial conviction that they had upon entering into that endeavor is, in essence, the same.
well, at least to me, it is.
thus, the search begins. after the last big one i had blew up on my face, i have come to the conclusion that i must persist anew in this arduous task of finding my lifemate. i feel that my coming to this conclusion may have been haphazard, but it still doesn't change the fact that by sitting idly by, i forfeit any chance of earthly happiness.
now, here's where my boneheadedness kicks in.
having never picked up anyone in the bar scene, it was never an avenue that i was willing to pursue. i think it had something to do with the fact that if ever i do try this out, it screams desperation all over and you never know if Sally is actually Harry in real life, sans makeup on his/her part and intoxication on mine.
therefore, i take myself a notch lower.
i decide to contact a matching service to do the legwork for me.
hey, it worked for the fiddler on the roof, why can it not work for yours truly?
so far, all my... transactions have been for naught.
i've encountered someone who was a wonderful talk on the phone, but never wanted to meet up and talk face to face.
i've also had the pleasure of not ever getting to talk to one of these referrals.
then, i finally meet up with one of these contacts and find out that her nose is in direct sight of my navel. kissing her would probably throw out my back faster than you can say "look out below!"
this doesn't deter my single-minded purpose of finding the one though. nope. not one bit. i'm going to keep looking.
even if it kills me.
